A new and EXCITING collaboration – Creative Skills Factory is a participant in a new collaboration in the Overstrand with WOMAD South Africa.
A collaboration aiming to nurture young South African talent and provide a rich, inclusive cultural experience for children and youth – and we are so excited to be part of it.
WOMAD is an acronym for “World of Music, Arts and Dance” – https://womadsa.co.za/about
WOMAD is an organisation offering international events, festivals and workshops that celebrate global cultures through music, the arts and performance. WOMAD South Africa is a branch of the WOMAD International Organisation and is headed up by the renowned Dan Chioboli.
Founded in 1982 by musician, Peter Gabriel and others, WOMAD brings together artists from all over the world – offering audiences a rich, diverse experience of traditional and contemporary music, dance and workshops. The events have been held in various countries and continue to promote cultural exchange, unity and appreciation of artistic diversity.

What an incredible celebration of creativity and culture at the first WOMAD Youth Workshop –
Kidz 4 Kulture Day in the Overstrand!
Hosted at the Waldorf School in Hermanus by WOMAD South Africa, in collaboration with Creative Skills Factory and funded by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), the event on the 26th of April was a vibrant blend of learning, laughter and inspiration.

The day featured inspiring talks and workshops by Educational Psychologist, Jennobia Kock, Vishnu Singh, Mandiseli Maseti, Alexis Matsimela and Beauty Dumileyo.
Youth participated in sessions on mental health, literacy and employability, and were engaged in joyful puppetry workshops and a magical puppet show.

With the generous support of Rotary Hermanus who sponsored delicious meals from Food Lovers Market, Abagold Education Trust who sponsored stationery and treats, and shared the beautiful voices of their choir and, the helping hands of the Rotary Rotaracters – the day was a true community effort. The event ended with a spirited community concert featuring the Deep Soul Voices,
Lisa Nellz, Nolundi Nonono and the Abagold Choir.

A heartfelt thank you to Dan Chiorboli of WOMAD South Africa, Rotary Hermanus, Howard and Anthony Krut.
Thank you Spairo – Founder and Director of the Spairo Arts Foundation – for the welcome speech with inspiring and encouraging words for the youth, thank you Ayakha Kamana for your help with organisation and logistics, thank you everyone who made the day so special.

Together, we’re nurturing the next generation of South African changemakers through arts, culture and collaboration!
